"Mysterious Travellers: The Life Cycle of the Eel" Giclée Print, Set of 5

£120.00

Set of 5 prints illustrating the European Eel’s life cycle.

Eels are creatures with an amazing story to tell. They spawn in the Sargasso Sea, a borderless expanse of ocean in the Atlantic, near the Caribbean. The larvae look like transparent leaves, not like an eel at all. After hatching the Eel Larvae transform into Glass Eels. In this form the young Eels swim all the way to the European rivers and waterways. They are transparent and about the size of your little finger. Once they reach fresh water they begin the transformation into Elvers and eventually adult European Eels. After around 30 years the adult Eels transform again into their silver form. The silver Eels return to the Sargasso Sea to spawn and die.

Sadly the Eels are finding it more difficult to complete their life cycle in recent years and numbers have plummeted. As so little is known about their breeding habits it has been difficult for humans to help the European Eel in its plight. European Eels are now critically endangered.

A peaceful and harmonious depiction of an often overlooked and unloved creature capturing it’s unique life cycle and subtle beauty. Depicted in shades of turquoise and soft yellow these prints are perfect for a calming and curious edition to any home.

  • 10” x 10” Giclée prints

  • unframed

  • Arches Edition Etching Paper

  • Archival quality ink

Giclée printing is an extremely high level of quality, longevity and value compared to a standard, inkjet print.
